Youth Co:Lab Reflection Cards – Take a break to reflect your journey as a changemaker
Are you a Changemaker?
Have you ever feel tired, doubt or lost along the journey to make the world better?
Here is a tool to embrace your feelings along the journey, and to help you reset your energy to continue your path.
Youth Co:Lab Reflection Cards are a tool for changemakers to take a step back and reflect on their experiences in their journey to change society.
No matter where you are at the moment, whether you have started your project for years, for months, you are burning with enthusiasm or you are burnt out, you can have conversations with companions and with yourself about the path you have walked on by playing this deck of cards.
This deck of cards is categorized into six suits:
Starting Conversation:
The Opening Card lets you introduce yourself and reflect on your mental state and what you are doing.
Changemaker Suit (16 cards): The Changemaker Suit asks you about your experiences as a changemaker. The cards will help you reflect on your journey, on the social issues you are concerned about and your approaches.
Social Activist Suit (6 Cards): Social Activist is someone who advocates for social change and takes actions. They try to raise awareness with the public, to revolutionize politics, economy, or environment. If what you are doing is to change the society, you may play these cards along with the Changemaker Suit.
Social Innovator Suit (6 cards): Social Innovator is someone who creates new social practices to respond to social needs and to find new solutions. A social innovator collects ideas, resources, tools and lessons-learnt to discover concrete solutions to a social problem, human rights, public health, education and social services included. A new social practice can always be expanded, it can create cooperation and build relationship among people. Products, services and social innovation models can increase social capital and potential. If your goal is to create a new social practice, you can play these cards along with the Changemaker Suit.
Social Entrepreneur Suit (6 cards): Social Entrepreneur is someone who is interested in doing a business that can solve a social problem. They put social innovation ideas into practice, with a business strategy for sustainability and to create positive changes in terms of social and economic aspects for the locals and all stakeholders. If what you are doing is to build a business that simultaneously solves a social problem, you may play these cards along with the Changemaker Suit.
Ending Conversation:
The Closing Card will help you encapsulate what you have learnt from the conversations and take you further in the journey of a changemaker.
Message Cards:
Message Cards are for you to write on. You can write to yourself after the conversations end, to record your growth during your social change journey. Or you can use them to write about your teammates, your other friends, or those you want to express gratitude to.
How to play
This deck of cards is intended for a changemaker to reflect on their journey.
The cards can be used to have conversations with oneself or with the others.
Players: 1- 5 people (or more)
1)Pick the card suit: You can start the game using the Changemaker Suit. If you see yourself as a social activist, social innovator, or social entrepreneur, you can pick those suits to play along. You shall shuffle all the cards from any categories to have conversations with your friends, or yourself.
2)Answer the Opening Cards’ question: Every player introduce themselves and answer the Opening Card’s question.
3)Answer the randomized questions: A player pick a card from the deck, open the card and answer it. Other players take turn answering the same question voluntarily (you can always opt out). When everyone has had their turn, pick a new card from the deck and follow the same routine within the time limit agreed upon.
4)Answer the closing Card’s question: When you want to end the game, everyone shall answer the Closing Card’s question.
5)Write on the Mind Reader’s Cards: When the conversations end, write about what you have learnt, reflect on your experiences, or write to give encouragement to your friends.
Keep this in mind
Youth Co:Lab Reflection Cards are a tool for changemakers to take a step back and reflect on their experiences during their journey to change society. No answer is right or wrong but it will help you reflect on what you are doing, and it might be meaningful for your next-step decisions. Answer with sincerity even though it may not be the ideal one. Every player should all together try to create a safe space where everyone can talk and listen with an open mind, and with no judgement. You may find some shared experiences that each and every changemaker tend to stumble upon.
